Rosemary

Rosmarinus officinalis, commonly known as rosemary, is a woody, perennial herb with fragrant, evergreen, needle-like leaves and white, pink, purple, or blue flowers, native to the Mediterranean region. It is a member of the mint family Lamiaceae, which includes many other herbs. The name «rosemary» derives from the Latin for «dew» (ros) and «sea» (marinus), or «dew of the sea». The plant is also sometimes called anthos, from the ancient Greek word ἄνθος, meaning «flower».

 

Here are some health benefits of rosemary:

  1. Rosemary is rich in dietary fiber and contains no cholesterol. The leaves provide just 131 calories per 100g.
  2. Rosemary has so much of vitamin A that a few leaves a day in the diet would almost meet the requirement for optimal vision. Vitamin A is also required for maintaining healthy mucus membranes and skin.
  3. Rosemary leaves (fresh) are also a good source of vitamin C (22mg /100g) that are required for collagen synthesis and boosting immunity.
  4. Rosemary is very rich in B vitamins such pyridoxine and folic acid which is vital in synthesis and repair of DNA and RNA and also to prevent major birth defects of the baby’s brain or spine in pregnant women.

Rosemary has many therapeutic effects and helps in the management of many disorders and diseases as well.

Europlants – Uso de las plantas Rosemary Infused Oil

Rosemary Infused Oil

Properities

  • 1 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 cup fresh rosemary

Instructions

This rosemary oil has a deep green color and is richly aromatic with a savory taste.

 

Stovetop Rosemary Oil

  • Use a heavy pot that heats evenly. Avoid aluminum and non-enameled cast iron. Place the rosemary in the pot and pour the oil over it. Heat over low heat for 5 – 10 minutes. You want the oil to warm but not simmer.
  • Turn off the heat and let the rosemary infuse in the oil for 1 hour. Strain into a clean, dry glass bottle or jar (it is not necessary to sterilize the bottle or jar for this recipe). Cover tightly and store away from direct light or heat at room temperature for up to 2 months, or in the refrigerator for 6 months.

Slow Cooker Rosemary Oil

  • This method may seem counterintuitive if, like me, you’re used to the instruction to avoid exposing aromatic fresh herbs to high heat and to keep them covered while they are infusing. But it works beautifully!
  • Place the fresh rosemary into your slow cooker and cover with the oil. Cook on the highsetting uncovered for 1 hour.
  • Turn off the slow cooker and let the oil cool to room temperature. Strain into a clean, dry glass bottle or jar (it is not necessary to sterilize the bottle or jar). Cover tightly and store away from direct light or heat at room temperature for up to 2 months, or in the refrigerator for 6 months.

Dos socias de la asociacion han participado en el encuentro realizado en francia del 22 al 26 de Abril dentro del proyecto Grundtvig Europlants, donde han podido aprender muchas cosas realcionadas con el uso de la plantas y sus beneficios.
